Vineyards appear important in the economic and social plan but unfortunately, sensitive to the attack of diseases which are detrimental for the crop.

The principal diseases are the powdery mildew odium, the downy mildew, the grey mould. These three parasitic diseases are related to fungi which develop in wet conditions.

The downy mildew is caused by a microscopic fungus called Plasmopara viticola which attacks the leaves and the grapes. It produces a said yellowish tasks or “oil tasks” on the leaves, then the lower part of the leaves end up covered with white felting caused by mildew on the lower part of a wine-leaf. This fungus is also responsible for the tanning and drying of the grape-grains. The mildew contamination does not hibernate on the crop.

The powdery mildew oidium called Uncinula necator develops at the surface of the wine’s green bodies. Its presence is detected on the leaves by diffuse tasks of a white-grey dust. If the contamination takes place at inflorescent times, the grape-grains fall and if it takes place later, the grains are covered with grey powder, then they burst. The odium hibernates on the crop. A first attack is a warning for the following year when for once it can be assured that the disease will be declared again.

Grey mould or Botrytis bunch rot attack mainly the grape-grains.

The input of harmful phyto-pesticides is heavily seen in wine crops. The intensive consummation of these products has lead to the development of resistances of micro-organisms to several fungicides. Due to their high toxicity, a myriad of these merchandise are now prohibited. Indeed, an EU decree (See Official Journal November 2007) has banned the utilization of more than one hundred active molecules in agriculture, including fungicides which are represented by many marketed products.

New strategies dare to finally be a true long term-option in the use of pesticides for wine growers.
Bees are marvellous creatures!. They have survived for millions of years without the assistance of human beings. The most powerful varieties are adapted to the environment in their struggle for life under the terms of natural selection (Darwinism). They are hard workers and play an important and essential role in Nature, more so than one can think or imagine. All the products of the hive are natural elixirs for humans: wax, honey, royal jelly, propolis, venom.

In our world of fast and perpetual evolution, it is important to be able to keep the interest of rising generations in bee-keeping. It's ancestral techniques sometimes can appear exceeded, becoming a major risk factor for the perennial and the survival of agriculture. Indeed, if the number of bee-keepers is reduced more and more, how can we guarantee pollination up to now assured by bees?

At first glance, it is only one insect species which is likely to disappear, but it can become a major environmental catastrophe when it is announced. Wasn’t it Albert Einstein who had already stated that humanity would not survive more than four years with the disappearance of bees?

Man has interest to be engaged with nature and try to help avoid the occurrence of this catastrophic scenario. For that we might build some of the first steps:

To teach children respect for the environment to avoid in presenting bee-keepers as opportunists in the work of hives and to promote them as guardians of nature instead.

To develop material in making the bee-keeper's work easier and more effective to show the farmers and landscape designers that bee-keepers constitute for them essential allies. Knowing that the amount of bee-keepers is dramatically reduced; the hope in seeing increasing numbers seems illusory.

On the contrary, the future risk is being marked by a concentration of the production in the hands of a much reduced number of these workers. To reduce the harmful input of chemical pesticides, man must investigate the effect of biological products on the environment. We must be aware of the steps we have to follow for future homologation of this bio-products, necessary in any field research trial. This is why it is of primary importance to test bio-products on non-target insects. Because of its importance on an ecological and economic level, bees are excellent non-target organisms.

However, man must respect the social structure implied on a hive and place the bees under closest conditions to their natural environment, hence to observe the swarm not as a whole of identical individuals independent from/to each other, but as a diffuse organization. The Queen is a precious treasure for bee-keepers, the use of the Queen Mandibular Pheromone (QMP) on research with experimental hives is essential. The QMP-- the only pheromone (or semio-chemical) chemically identified in the honey bee (Apis mellifera) queen-- makes possible to keep the cohesion of the population, to block the ovarian development of workers and to preserve the capacities of altruism of these insects.

More research and interest on bees are essential on the crazy weird industrialized world we live. Now that Man thinks he knows everything, he has also mastered the art of destroying nature. When a situation is so unprecedented that no amount of knowledge or experience is adequate to master it, then the ignorant and inexperienced are fit to deal with it than the learned and experienced.

Thomas Kindade’s paintings have become some of the most desirable pieces of art in the 21st century. His works are the Rolex among watches, the Judith Lieber bag among purses, and the Jacque Torres chocolate creation among chocolatiers. His paintings are known for having the “Kinkade Glow” and the fairytale décor of stories depicted in books written by the Brothers Grimm. The commercial appeal of his works has inspired critics to dub his collection “Chocolate Box Art.” On that note, for Christmas 2005, Glade Air Fresheners licensed a few of Kinkade’s paintings to be embossed on the glass casings of the company’s scented candles line. Many other vendors and organizations have licensed Kinkade’s artwork for their campaigns as well. His painting “Graceland” was used to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s estate being open to the public, and his painting “Fenway Park” was made for a tribute ceremony to “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.”Ô Kinkade was also the artist chosen to capture the historic Asheville, North Carolina mansion, Biltmore House, Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary and Walt Disney World Resort’s 35th Anniversary.

Known for his breathtakingly beautiful scenes of nature, Kinkade’s works display detailed inlays and frilly patterns which have been synonymous with 17th century Baroque painter, Peter Paul Rubens, the Zen-like landscapes of 19th century Romantic painter, Joseph Mallord William Turner, and possessing the serene esthetics of Impressionist designer, Monet. Thomas Kinkade’s collection embodies a range of subjects that all revolve around the environment and people living in harmony with nature. His collection includes Cottages, Gardens, Churches, Bridges, Manors, Lighthouses, Cityscapes, and the Great Outdoors. Kinkade designs his paintings to show the simple pleasures that exist throughout life, such as a rose bush in full bloom, a patch of bluebonnets growing around the door steps of a cottage, a gazebo in the middle of a grassy field, footprints dotted in the sand along a tranquil beach, the reflection of the Sun on the ocean waters as it is setting, a church’s spire towering above a town’s street for all eyes to see, or sail boats moving to and fro along the lanes of a cove. These are just some of the simple images that Kinkade paints and makes look entirely majestic on a one dimensional sheet of canvass.

Many of Kinkade’s paintings have a personal meaning for him, such as his portrait of California’s “La Jolla Cove,” which he describes on his website as, “Radiant light bathes the clouds and paints the sea in a luminous turquoise. The graceful palms are the same ones that saluted Nanette and I twenty-five years ago.” Nanette was Thomas Kinkade’s high school sweetheart and she became his wife in 1982. They have four daughters who are also a source of inspiration for Kinkade’s images, like in his painting, “Serenity Cove.” He explains that the painting, “featuring a lighthouse inspired by Marblehead Light on Lake Erie, celebrates the guidance my faith offers as I face life’s transitions. For me, the four boats sailing towards the horizon symbolize the life journey of my four daughters as they grow into adulthood.”

He and Nanette had their daughters in the 1980’s after Kinkade was able to support his family as a painter, selling his artwork in galleries throughout California where it all started for him. Born in 1958, Kinkade grew up in California’s Sierra Hills in a small town called Placerville. The images from his childhood of a rustic lifestyle and a community that turned to their faith for guidance and inspiration worked its way into the scenes which he paints today. His strong Christian faith inspired him to see the beauty of nature, but it was he training at the University of California at Berkeley and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena that gave him the tools to paint such romantic scenes.

Kinkade also has a penchant for painting the seasons. His scenes always let the viewer know if it is Winter by blanketing nature in ice and snow, Spring with the use of vibrant colors in pastel shades, Summer bathing the images in hues of tans and yellows to show the effects of the Sun, and Autumn with earthy tones dominating the palette. Kinkade’s paintings also show holiday themes, particularly for Christmas. His portraits of “Christmas Moonlight,” “Christmas Evening,“ and “Silent Night” ring elegantly with symbols of the Yuletide.

And then there are some paintings which are purely inspirational like “The Good Shepherd’s Cottage.” Kinkade expresses about this piece that “’The Good Shepherd Cottage’ is an allegory in paint, an image of the Lord returning to call His faithful. His house is an utterly comfortable and secure cottage, radiant with light. The air is luminous with sunset; the sound of His voice thrilling as He calls His sheep into a verdant meadow.”

One of Kinkade’s latest paintings, “Footprints In The Sand” also has Christian motifs as he revels in its meaning, “The parable about footprints in the sand, which reminds us that God carries us through our times of trouble, resonates with profound truth. My ‘Footprints In The Sand’ bustles with human activity - families strolling the pier, fishermen, even my first-ever portrayal of a surfer. Two pairs of footprints in the sand narrow to one, reminding us that when our lives are troubled, God will carry us through to joyous spiritual victory.”

Of course, this only skims the surface of Thomas Kinkade’s collection, but it is enough to show that all of his paintings lead to one place, and that is enjoying the simple pleasures of life. And whether that is the sight of The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California or the snow capped peaks of the Smoky Mountain range in Tennessee, beauty is in the environment everywhere. It is in the simple ways of country living, and in the way that the earth, water, the Sun, and the seasons bring joy to communities.

For more information on Thomas Kinkade, please visit his website at: www.thomaskinkade.com

For books by Thomas Kinkade, there are:
Thomas Kinkade: Paintings In Radiant Light
A Book Of Joy
The Thomas Kinkade Story: A 20-Year Chronology Of The Artist

The world of Middle-earth portrayed in J.R.R. Tolkien’s trilogy for The Lord of the Rings, is wonderfully depicted in some of the paintings by modern day fantasy artist, Stephen Hickman. His colors are vibrant, his lines are finely detailed, and his figures jump off the canvass. The themes of his works focus on the beauty and ferociousness of humans living in a supernatural habitat, which made Tolkien’s stories a perfect source of inspiration for his paintings.

The expressions in Hickman’s fictitious characters of hobbits, elves, earthly sorcerers, primordial beasts, and mythical creatures are entrancing, and his scenic illustrations with lush landscapes, delightful flora and fauna, and grizzly battles told from Tolkien’s stories are pictures that will move you beyond words. Hickman displays nature as being animated and having human-like features, and humans as being wondrous creatures of nature. The look of his figures is Medieval, but his technique is completely modern.

Hickman’s portrait of “Aragorn and Arwen,” who were played by the actors Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler respectively in Peter Jackson’s movie version of The Lord of the Rings, are shown as paragons of human-folk. Aragorn’s fair facial features, broad shoulders, long sinewy legs, and tapered waist project him as a man of understanding possessing a stout build and making him a strong protector and a judicious leader of his kind. Arwen’s long, flowing brown hair and comely beauty show her to be a woman of virtue and sensitivity. The image of Aragorn and Arwen is reminiscent of other legendary couples like Roman and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde, and Samson and Delilah, to name a few. As in these stories, Tolkien tells in his story that when Aragorn first sets his eyes on Arwen in Rivendell, it is love at first sight and Hickman captures that look of star-crossed lovers in his painting.

Hickman’s painting entitled “At The Entmoot” is a sweet portrait of the talking trees in Middle-earth, which Tolkien calls “Ent,” cradling the two hobbits, Frodo Baggins, played by Elijah Woods in the movie, and Sam Gamgee, played by Sean Astin, in a protective embrace. By the look on the faces of the hobbits, they are fully attentive to the tree across from them who appears to be narrating a rather enchanting tale. The detailing of the tree trunks and branches are impeccably realistic, and the tenderness in the “Ents” eyes is human-like making the supernatural seem completely natural. The painting has a friendly look with a childlike fascination.

Conversely, Hickman’s portraits of “Gaffer Gamgee and the Black Rider” and “Gandalf and the Balrog” show the more brutal side of earthly creatures. The elderly hobbit, Gaffer, fighting off a giant horseman garbed in complete black shows a perilously situation as the tiny hobbit seems to be able to hold the horse and its rider back, which Hickman displays by keeping Gaffer’s gate door to his home closed. It gives the impression that Gaffer has won. Also inspired from a scene in Tolkien’s books is “Gandalf and the Balrog.” Hickman’s rendition of Gandalf, played by actor Ian McKellen in the movie, fighting the Balrog, which is a tall, menacing humanoid able to shroud itself in a monstrous wall of fire in Tolkien’s story, appears fearless before the beast. The swirling lines of fires are superseded by the white of Gandalf’s gown, showing that good prevails.

Hickman also portrays Gandalf as being fearless in his painting, “Escape From Orthanc,” which depicts the scene when Gandalf jumps on the back of giant bird to escape imprisonment at the Tower of Cirith Ungol by Mordor. The painting shows Gandalf and his rescuer moving at an insanely fast speed by the wind-swept features of Gandalf’s face and the aerodynamic shape of the bird’s wings. Hickman shows Gandalf and the bird flying down rather than across in a horizontal line. The vertical line of the portrait gives the viewer an image of Gandalf being sucked into a vortex which intensifies the danger and the feel of freedom from bondage.

Hickman was also inspired by Tolkien’s writings about the “Siege of Minas Tirith,” which he paints as an immensely tense and chaotic battle. Tolkien writes that Minas Tirith is the capital of Gondor in Middle-earth. It is referred to as the White City or the City of Kings. The city was besieged by Mordor’s troops, but saved by the might of Gandalf, Rohan, and Gondor’s fiefs. Hickman’s portrayal of the battle makes no clear indication of a victor, but shows a land in complete disarray and fires that reach as high as the mountains and taking over the entire skyline.

The Tolkien series is just one part of Stephen Hickman’s collection. Other writers such as H.P. Lovecraft, A. Merritt, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and Clark Ashton Smith have inspired Hickman to paint scenes which add a visual dimension to these authors fantasy/science fiction stories.

Hickman’s love of art and fantasy stories was planted in him by his parents. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1946, it was his father who was the storyteller and his mother who introduced him to painting. As a child, Hickman traveled around the globe with his parents, which opened him up to other cultures. He graduated from Francis Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia and trained for two years at Richmond Professional Institute, now part of Virginia Commonwealth University. From other artists such as Frank Frazetta and Roy G. Krenkel, Hickman learned to articulate the skeletal features of his figures and to spend money on decent paint brushes, which improved his artistry greatly.

Hickman’s professional career was launched in 1972 when he was hired by Shirt Explosion in Lanham, Maryland to design T-shirts. His entry into book illustration came in 1974 when Charles Volpe, Art Editor at Ace Books commissioned Hickman to make illustrations for book covers for the company’s Classic and Science Fiction writers. His artwork has graced the covers of books by Stephen Brust, Hal Colbatch, Andre Norton, David Drake, Anne McCaffrey, Robert Heinlein, and many others. Hickman was honored with a Hugo Award in 1994 from the World Science Fiction Convention for the United States Postal Service’s Space Fantasy Commemorative Booklet of Stamps, the first official recognition by the US government of the science fiction genre. In addition, he has received five Chesley Awards from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists.

Gnomes belong to the clan of nomads that reside in the subterranean world of the earth’s underground. They are believed to be endowed with special talents which enable them to make a land prosper or wilt into barren fields that destroy crops and livestock. For this reason, farmers, in particular, believed in the power of the Gnomes and called on them for help.

Gnomes are based in Scandinavian folklore and are described as little people no bigger than a small child. Although Gnomes are smaller than an adult human, they are larger than many other supernatural creatures who wander the earth such as fairies, hobbits, elves, dwarfs, trolls, leprechauns, and the invisible community of the Vaette. In Norse culture, Gnomes are called Nisse. In Sweden, they are known as Tomte. The Scots have dubbed these creatures Brownie, and in Finland, they are referred to as Tonttu. But in America and parts of the western hemisphere, the term Gnome has been adopted.

The folklore surrounding Gnomes have inspired many artists over the years to put these creatures image into physical form on paper or as clay and wood figures. Their look is based on stories by such authors as Hans Christian Andersen, Astrid Lindgren and Jenny Nyström. You can regularly find Gnome Art at folk art fairs, craft shows, and some artists have even made their wares available in specialty shops where people can purchase figurines, paintings, post cards, and other items embossed with the image of Gnomes on them. The art is for the modern day Gnome enthusiast who enjoys such figures on their lawn or in their homes, and may even believe that Gnomes can restore unhealthy lands back to health.

Gnome artist, Maureen Carlson follows in the tradition of Gnome artists before her. She has crafted the Wee Folk Creations, which is a collection of figurines and artwork made in the image of Gnomes. She makes polymer clay figures with religious motifs such as the Sister Folk™ and Friar Folk™ . Other figures are of families which belong to The Pippsywoggins® and the Mug Dwellers™. These delightful characters can make any home feel warm and upbeat. Additionally, Maureen writes how-to-books on making crafts. Her latest book, Fairies, Gnomes And Trolls displays her own artwork on this subject matter and introduces audiences to her workshop in Minnesota.

Maureen and her husband, Dan have established the Maureen Carlson’s Center for Creative Arts in Jordan, Minnesota. The Center offers private art classes and retreats with internationally recognized instructors. The Center “is grounded in the belief that creativity is a doorway into self-discovery, personal and spiritual growth, and joyful living.” The facility is located just 35 miles southwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota and offers classes for Mixed Media artists, doll makers, sculptors, jewelry beaders, and storybook writers. The Center is a refurbished 19-century boarding house that sits on the banks of Sand Creek. It is near metropolitan attractions such as antique shops, meat and produce markets, and scenic walking paths.

Maureen’s attachment to Gnome Art began when she was a little girl growing up on a dairy farm in central Michigan. She spent hours wandering in the woods and fields, and digging in the garden groves. These experiences became the inspiration for the images that she put into her artwork drawing from nature’s colors, textures, and forms. As a child, she must have wandered, like other children, how a rock got its shape, why certain crops weather storms better than others, or how a patch of grass can grow between slabs of stone when no fertile ground is visible to the naked eye. The answers to these questions rest in the folklore of Gnomes. These creatures of the underground earth are believed to take care of all such matters related to nature and horticulture.

Gnomes are thought to be responsible for the growth and prosperity of one’s lands, but they also have a reputation for pulling pranks on humans. They come out at night when households are asleep. The pranksters in the clan include the “Pot Licker” Gnome, “The Door Slammer” Gnome, the “Sausage Snatcher” Gnome, the “Window Peeper” Gnome, and several others that take on the mischievous characteristics affiliated with trolls and leprechauns. Gnomes are believed to be the “soul” of the first inhabitants of a parcel of land or farm. They are the ones who cleared the lot to build a house on it, and their dwellings are in the “burial mounds” on the land. Gnomes are physically very strong and are believed to wear scholar caps, pointy hats that signify their level of intelligence. The highly educated ones are believed to wear hats that are more than half their own height. Going hatless meant that the Gnomes are untrustworthy and deceptive. The pointy caps are relatable to a Dunces Cap in English based cultures, which have the complete opposite meaning from that of the Gnome folk.

But one thing is shared by both the human race and Gnome folk and that is: If you take care of the earth, the earth will take care of you and your family. These are words to live by no matter what your species.

Without having any formal art training, fairy artist Amy Brown has built an extensive collection of over 800 fantasy images that are bound to withstand the test of time. Her lines are elegant, her colors are eye-catching, and her figures are statuesque with facial expressions that are comely to the viewer‘s eyes. Her mythical creatures have a Gothic look and her divas possess an otherworldly presence as her lightning coordinates the luminous glow of her figures with the cast shadows made by their features. Inspired by such fantasy artists as Brian Froud and Michael Parkes, and the urban fantasy stories of Charles De Lint, Brown’s artwork connects with people’s sense of beauty and their desire to imagine a place where animals, nature and humans live in harmony.

Born in Bellingham, Washington in 1972, Amy Brown grew up listening to the sounds of nature and watching undomesticated animals preside over the lands. She began painting in 1992, after taking a job working as a custom picture framer for the local shop Festival of Art, where she was responsible for framing art. Brown tells in her biography on her website that “Working with mats and frames gives you a better feel for color and texture.” She learned about color, design, framing techniques, layout, and various art techniques. After working in the art gallery for 4 months, her boss, Shawn, gave her a frame and told her to paint something to go inside the frame. Brown painted the first image that came into her head - a charming fairy, and that is how it all started for her. She began painting fairies on a regular basis and sold them at local shops, galleries, and street fairs.

Amy Brown began by channeling the legendary tales of Camelot and referring to such fantastical tales as The Hobbit by Tolkien to spark her imagination and mobilize the creativity in her fingers. She explains on her website, “I start with a blank piece of paper and begin drawing. I rarely do preliminary sketches unless there is a troublesome area that needs special attention or I can't decide on the layout of the overall piece. The initial drawing can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to hours, days, months, and sometimes years”

She reveals that “By the time I actually complete the painting, it has often evolved into something completely different.” She uses pencils for her drawings, then Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors and Windsor and Newton brushes to paint the background colors. She prefers to work with 140lb or 300lb Arches cold press watercolor paper. She typically completes the background first and then concentrates on the characters in her drawings.

She expresses, “When I am happy with the drawing, I start to paint. I always do the background first, whether it consists of light washes of color or multiple layers of paint. Next I focus on any inanimate objects in the background, including trees, rocks, walls, water. I will use salt, wax, ink or colored pencil to help create different textures. After the entire background is finished I will work on any secondary figures. These might be goblins, pixies, or animals. I prefer to paint the central figure last. I focus on skin tones first, then follow with clothing, wings and hair.”

She examines, “Each aspect of a painting involves a gradual build up of colors. Background washes can have as many as five or six layers of paint. Clothing usually has at least 2 layers, while four or five layers are needed for hair. I use white gouache or colored pencil for accents and highlights. Sometimes I will outline the image in ink before I begin adding watercolor washes.”

In 1997, Amy Brown debuted her first website to sell her artwork. The site was re-designed shortly after requests began pouring in, which allowed Amy to sell her paintings worldwide. In 2001, Hot Topic Stores came upon Amy Brown’s art and contacted her about licensing various prints for their stores. Soon afterwards, Amy expanded her merchandise repertoire to include her prints on mugs, stationary, ceramic tiles, stickers, and other items. Hot Topic’s interest in Brown’s artwork made it possible for her paintings to be seen by mainstream audiences who found her art very attractive and began purchasing items in bulk. Amy’s artwork has been used in the background for episodes of the TV comedy “My Name is Earl” and in independent films such as “Inhabited” and the cult film “Ringers Lord of the Fans,” which is a parody of “Lord of the Rings.”

In 2002, Chimera Publishing offered to publish Amy Brown’s first art book entitled The Art of Amy Brown, which now has a volume I and a volume II in print. Volume I was released in January 2003 and the second volume came out in mid-2005. Amy Brown has also contributed her artwork to The Art of Faery, The World of Faery, and Fairy Wisdom Deck.

Like many fairy artists, Amy Brown creates her masterpieces in her home studio, but unlike most painters, Brown is able to work on several pieces at one time. Her ability to multi-task also crosses over into her skills as an avid gardener, or vice versa as she describes on her website, “I paint all of the backgrounds, then all of the skin tones, clothing, etc. It saves time by not having to mix and remix paints constantly. Since I usually have so many different ideas, I can jump from piece to piece and work on whatever strikes me at the time.”

The celestial figures in her paintings, in some way, have come to represent some aspect of her own personality as she cites, “"To a certain extent, all of my paintings reflect some inner part of myself - the more serious, darker ones come from very deep within, while the cute or funny pieces are very much from the surface. I often find myself giggling while I do those."

If her figures were 3-dimensional, you would no doubt be able to see them giggling right with her. Amy Brown is a fairy artist who has broken into mainstream markets without sacrificing the elements that spur on her creativity. She admits that she does not work on commission but values her creative license and keeps it in tact. The secrets to developing an expansive collection of prints, in Brown’s opinion, is to have an open mind and to practice as much as possible as she endorses on her website, ”Practice as much as possible and never think there isn't something new to learn or some way to improve your work.”

You can learn more about Amy Brown by visiting her website www.amybrownart.com

It’s a surprise how we Homo sapiens are twisting the world's atmosphere and climate, threatening and polluting water, scattering deserts, reducing forest and lands. No wonder we are now contemplating the decreasing of animal, insect and plant species which certainly are irreplaceable. Isn't this misfortune catastrophic for our future generations?

Modern man is considered carefully more by the concern of responsibility than by the concerns of emotions and creation. Our urge emanates forthwith from industrial development. With the explosion of computer and communication technology, we believe to be adapted to the world but we project on it huge consumption and waste levels; thus our challenge to survive is not getting a feedback. The environmental damage is dramatically reducing our population. Although we are more evolved than the higher primates, we’re still the greatest predators on the food chain. However, years of evolution have proven that if we use the intellectual tools our species possesses, we will eventually get the biological and cultural approach of ourselves that our society needs. Perhaps right now?

Humans are brilliant primates indeed… we observe, imagine, read or analyze about the marvelous process of conceiving and giving life! What we want for our future generations is not an eroding planet but an environment exquisitely adapted to us. Are we close to the misfortune of no longer embracing something equivalent with the human intellect capacity for awe? That we pursue something passionately doesn’t mean that we really want it or have a special aptitude for it. Ergo, we are fainted by the substance of our existence and often driven by instincts, fast life styles and competition. Fate or adaptation?

Hopefully, lassitude of the amazement will not occur during our lifetime. Man, still having unexplored terrain and unbounded extent in biology, geology, biogeography and oh! so many areas of science. The vast winners to search about organic diversity will certainly harmonize with the human brain eventually, those emotive centers that unfolded to characterize us as superior hunters and growers. We are so powerful that we manipulate all ecosystems confronting with enigmas that will perhaps be solved only through more generations of study and creative work. Power or struggle?

Come to think of it … the same instinct that motivates the biologist, the viticulturist, the bee-keeper, the gardener, the biologist, the passionate of Nature … can vaguely endure the ecological needs, yet the most intriguing part of the universe is within us!. We still live in a wonderful, mysterious and organic planet; the odds to unearth another one within light years are far-off. Our planet, Earth, still holds millions of species within it, which in turn proves to be a more intriguing paradox than any number of spiritless planets? Dreams or missions?

Though research keeps evolving importantly in all fields, it seems that the destruction of our natural resources and climate deterioration urges us to focus on our planet and its richness, coupled with an awakening of emotions through art. Isn’t it an awareness of unaccomplished aims which gives us the perception that we each have a duty and fate?

Copyright ©2008 Ana Isabel Ordonez
